If you and your ex have separated and you cannot afford to get a divorce, there are options for you to consider.
There are many online legal resources that can at least help you understand what steps must be taken to get a divorce. These resources will also direct you to low-cost alternatives, including making a decision on whether you feel comfortable or capable representing yourself in some aspects of the court process. Or, you may be able to hire a lawyer, but “unbundle” some of the legal services you need. This will allow you to hire a lawyer to perform the most important tasks.
Finally, if you meet certain low-income thresholds, you may also be able to avail yourself of certain legal assistance programs.
