I need a court order right away. What should I do?

Without knowing exactly what the needed order is for, it is challenging to generalize. First of all, the topic of the needed order will be a relevant concern (e.g. does it relate to custody or access?  Urgent scheduling around holidays?  Preventing a parent from leaving the country with a child? Preventing the dissipation of family assets?).  Secondly, the nature or type of order is also important: For example, you may need a temporary or interim order with a limited duration, or you may need something more final.

With those caveats in mind, the main piece of advice is to get good, tailored legal advice – if you haven’t already. Your lawyer will know the proper steps that need to be taken, depending on the various factors, issues, and nature of the urgency. Particularly since your need for the order is so timely, you will want to make sure that you don’t jeopardize your own success, or lose valuable time by taking the wrong steps on your own.
