Why do I need a lawyer for divorce?
The simplest answer: The Canadian legal system is complex, and navigating through it can be overwhelming, particularly when you have significant rights and interests, such as dividing your marital properly fairly, and getting your full entitlement to financial support from your ex, at stake.
With that said, it’s not mandatory for you to hire a lawyer to represent you in your divorce. Some people do choose to represent themselves. However, this is usually not a good idea, because you run the serious risk of overlooking some aspects of your legal position, and neglecting to assert your rights fully.
